5 Simple Methods for Capturing More RSS Feed Subscribers

23 Jul, 2007  |  Written by John  |  under Blog Basics

An area of my blog that i've been concentrating on improving just lately is my rss feed subscriber numbers and methods that i can use to increase the number of casual visitors to my blog and turn them into loyal rss feed subscribers…

Here's the 5 simple methods i'm currently using on my blog…

1. Keep RSS Feed Subscription Link Above Fold

Make sure you put your subscription options and links in a prominent position above the fold. This simply means that visitors shouldn't need to scroll down the page to be able to subscribe to your rss feed. A good place is somewhere at the top of the sidebar like i have here on the right…

2. Use the Standard Feed Icon Graphic

Make sure you add the standard rss feed icon graphic, preferably a large one so that it stands out on your blog making it more visible for visitors. Feel free to use the below graphic that i'm using or simply do a search on google for standard rss feed icon

3. Use a "Click Here" Link

Instead of just using the rss feed icon with a simple text link that says something like "RSS Feed" use descriptive text that gives the visitor an instruction, for instance make the text say "Click here for rss feed subscription"

4. Write an RSS Feed Article

Write an article on your blog explaining what an rss feed is and how to subscribe to one. Don't make the mistake in assuming that all the visitors to your blog know what an rss feed or rss feed reader is. Explain to them in a simple to understand article how to subscribe to your rss feed and put a link to that particular article underneath the subscription icon…

I currently link to my "how to subscribe article" from my rss feed options page that i currently link to underneath my rss feed icon…

5. Include All Feedburner Subscriber Buttons

Include a page on your blog that includes all the rss feed subscription buttons that are available through feedburner so visitors are able to use a one click option to subscribe to your feed. Here's the page i currently have set up on my blog which gives this option RSS Feed Options

The whole goal of setting up your rss feed subscription options using the above methods is to give visitors every opportunity possible to become loyal readers of your blog including those who are completely knew to rss feeds…

What are you doing on your blog to capture more rss feed subscribers ??
